MoP Classic P5 Blood Death Knight Guide

Use Death Strike to respond to recent spike damage, and cover Blood Shield over truly dangerous physical windows.

Core resource:Runes · Runic Power

Core Rotation

  • Maintain both diseases, arrange runes with Heart Strike/Death Strike, avoid leaving same-type runes idle for long.
  • After taking damage, use Death Strike to heal from the recent damage window; during calm periods, pool resources and don't press buttons just because they light up.
  • Use Rune Strike to prevent Runic Power capping; stagger Vampiric Blood, Icebound Fortitude, and Dancing Rune Weapon according to the timeline.

Mechanics and Opener

  • Death Strike:Healing amount takes the higher of recent damage taken and lowest health; it is primarily an active recovery after spikes, secondarily a damage button.
  • Blood Shield:Mastery converts Death Strike healing into a physical absorb. It suits covering continuous melee; for magic damage, you must separately arrange Anti-Magic Shell or external mitigation.
  • Dual resources:Runes determine whether Death Strike is available; Runic Power is both damage for Rune Strike and a resource buffer. Emptying both before a dangerous moment is the most fatal mistake.
  • -3 sec|Confirm Bone Shield/buffs, full runes, and stand at the first tank position.:Before pull, prepare survival resources and positioning.
  • -1 sec|Potion; use Outbreak or Death Grip to engage at range:Let the potion cover the first trinket window without losing initial melee threat.
  • 0–3 sec|Burst: apply both diseases, Heart Strike to build threat:Use a set of abilities to apply debuffs, threat, and rune activation.
  • Before first heavy stomp|Use Dancing Rune Weapon or a minor cooldown, and keep one set of Death Strike runes.:First reduce spikes, then recover with Death Strike.
  • 0–2 sec after Heavy Stomp|Death Strike, then use Rune Strike to prevent runic power capping.:Take full advantage of the recent damage window while continuing to roll resources.

Common Mistakes and WCL Review

  • Don't empty both runes and runic power before big damage.
  • Magic spikes cannot rely solely on Blood Shield, pre-assign damage reduction or Anti-Magic Shell.
  • Is Death Strike used within 5 seconds after spike damage?
  • Blood Shield uptime, rune idle time, and whether personal damage reduction hits dangerous abilities.
